Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between cosmetic surgery and reconstructive surgery?
Cosmetic surgery is a surgical procedure performed to reshape normal structures of the face and body so as to improve the patient's overall appearance and self confidence.
Reconstructive surgery is performed to correct abnormal structures of the body, caused by congenital deformities (birth defects) or developmental deformities (caused due to an accident, injury, or disease). The goal of such a procedure is to give the patient an improved appearance and a new outlook on life.
What are the most common cosmetic surgery procedures?
The most common cosmetic surgery procedures include rhinoplasty - (nose reshaping surgery), otoplasty - (ear surgery) eyelid lift, face lift, breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, male breast reduction, liposuction, SmartLipo, brow lift, tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), thigh and arm lift, lip augmentation, skin rejuvenation and skin resurfacing.
Where will my plastic surgery be performed?
In almost all cases, Dr. Theodorou performs the surgical procedures at his fully accredited surgical facility in Manhattan. Most procedures are done under general anesthesia, but local anesthesia and intravenous sedation can also be used based on the procedure and preference of the patient/physician.
Are there any risks associated with plastic surgery?
All plastic surgical procedures are accompanied by a certain degree of risk. Depending on the patient and the procedure(s) involved, the level of risks and complication varies. Prior to the surgery, the doctor will inform you of the potential risks associated with the procedure you are planning to undergo. However, all due precautions will be taken to avoid such incidents.
What is rhinoplasty and who is a good candidate for rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is the plastic surgery procedure performed for correcting a nose imperfection that is a birth defect or one caused by injury, or for improving the cosmetic appearance of the nose.
Rhinoplasty is not the right procedure for everyone. Skin types and age are important considerations. To be a good candidate for rhinoplasty, you need to be at least 15 years old, must be physically healthy and have realistic expectations.
Is SmartLipo a painful procedure?
No, SmartLipo is a safe and virtually painless procedure, performed under local anesthesia.
What areas of the body can be treated with SmartLipo?
SmartLipo is a new and advanced option in plastic surgery that has proved highly effective for removing excess fat deposits from areas like upper and lower abdomen, chin and neck, inner and outer thighs, hips, knees, buttocks, upper arms, and male breasts.
What is the recovery time for SmartLipo?
As this procedure is performed under local anesthesia, there is no need to recover from general sedation. Patients can return to routine activities within a few days.
How long does the short-scar facelift procedure take?
The procedure itself takes approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours and is performed under either general or "twilight"(conscious sedation) anesthesia.
Can I expect long lasting results after a short-scar facelift?
If performed correctly, and depending on the skin quality of the patient, this procedure ensures great results that would last anywhere from 8 to 10 years.
What are the different breast implant options available?
One can choose either silicone gel-filled or saline-filled breast implants for enhancing breast size and shape.
Is BOTOX injection effective for reducing and preventing wrinkles from my face?
